Overheard a foreman say tape and mud is 90 percent of the finish and 50 percent of the time
I was on a job in downtown Austin last Thursday and this old guy says that to his apprentice while I'm loading my truck. Made me think about how much effort I actually put into my taping vs just slapping it on. You guys spend as much time on the tape as the rest of the board?

Right there with you on this one. That foreman nailed it honestly. I had a kitchen ceiling last month where I rushed the tape on one corner just to save maybe twenty minutes, ended up having to come back and scrape half of it off because it bubbled something awful. Taping is definitely the part where you can't cut corners or it'll haunt you later.

Oh man, that kitchen ceiling story hit close to home. I did the exact same thing on a bathroom remodel back in March, figured I'd save ten minutes by not pre-filling that corner joint and just taping it dry. Ended up with a wrinkle the size of my thumb that I had to cut out and redo, which took like an hour instead of ten minutes. Taping is one of those jobs where the extra time upfront saves you twice the headache later, no question about it.

Rebel Wilson with a toolbox, that's a movie I'd watch, @simon_carr.
