Vent: Today's drywall scrap heap woke me up to waste
I was sweeping up after a wall job and the bag of leftovers was stuffed full. It hit me that tossing all this just adds to the landfill when it could be used for repair bits. What do you do with extra drywall pieces to keep things green?

Break the drywall into small bits and use it in your garden. The gypsum in drywall can improve soil quality and cut down on trash. You get free soil amendment and less stuff in the dump.

Yeah the gypsum thing is real. I mean I tried it with some old drywall in my flower beds last year and it actually helped.

Honestly beth147 is right about checking for additives, but breaking it down small really does help it work faster.

Watch out using random drywall though, some types have additives or mold treatments you don't want in soil. You really want pure gypsum or at least know it's plain, unpainted drywall. The paper facing can also mat down and take forever to break down.
