Just realized that 'detox' foot bath I tried was just colored water

My sister bought one of those ionic foot bath machines off Facebook for $120 and convinced me to try it. After 30 minutes the water turned brown and she was sure toxins were coming out. I looked up the manual and it said the electrodes cause the salt in the water to oxidize and change color. Has anyone else had a relative fall for this stuff and refuse to believe it's fake?

Oh man, my mom fell for that exact same thing last year. She bought some foot bath from a late night infomercial and was so proud showing me the brown water. I tried to explain it's just the salt in the water reacting with the metal plates but she got super defensive and said I was closed minded. She still brings up how "clean" she felt afterward and has tried to get my dad to do it too. The brown water looked exactly like the tea I spill in the sink so I don't know how she thinks that's toxins leaving her body.

Feel you so hard on this @the_robin. My aunt dropped $150 on one of those machines and still swears the brown water made her migraines go away. I tried to show her a YouTube video debunking it and she got all quiet and changed the subject. Now every time I visit she offers to let me "detox" with her and I have to politely decline like it's some sacred family ritual.
