Chat with my neighbor's kid made me rethink my old PS2 collection

He said my games were 'basically fossils' and it hit different because I realized he'd never held a CRT or blown into a cartridge, so now I'm wondering how do y'all explain physical media to people who grew up on digital downloads?

Explain? I just hand them a copy of Rule of Rose and remind them that when the servers go dark forever, my scratched up disc still works on a dusty console in a basement somewhere. Kids these days act like blowing on a cartridge was a ritual, not just desperation. But hey, at least their scratched discs still boot up, unlike my copy of Guitar Hero that my dog chewed into a frisbee.

Did we forget that most people who grew up on physical media also tossed out cases and scratched discs constantly? I had a stack of PS2 games that stopped working because my little brother left them on the carpet. I get the nostalgia angle but acting like cartridges were some flawless golden age is just not reality.
