Ditched my PS3 for a backwards compatible PS2 after 8 years

I spent YEARS playing PS1 games on my PS3 because I thought it was fine. Then a buddy let me borrow his old fat PS2 that had the actual PS1 processor inside. The loading times on Final Fantasy 7 went from like 15 seconds to maybe 4 or 5. I grabbed one off Facebook Marketplace for $45 last month and I'm kicking myself for waiting so long. Anyone else notice a big speed difference between systems on old games?

Gotta push back a little here... my PS3 has been running PS1 games just fine for years honestly. The loading times on something like Crash Bandicoot feel pretty similar to what I remember on my old PS1. Plus my PS3 upscales everything to 1080p and it looks way better on my modern TV. I tried playing FF7 on a friend's PS2 last month and honestly the graphics looked so blurry on my flatscreen I couldn't do it. The load times might be a tiny bit faster but the visual tradeoff isn't worth it for me.

Fair enough, but doesn't playing old games through all that extra processing defeat the purpose of the original experience?
