Spent 3 hours trying to find why a PS2 wouldn't read discs. The fix was a single screw.

Young.michael, you said it makes you want to laugh and cry. Which feeling actually won out for you after getting it working?

Oh, how many of us have been there? I spent a whole afternoon once trying to figure out why an old DVD player would skip, and it ended up being the littlest thing - a tiny bit of dust on the lens. It just makes you want to laugh and cry at the same time, doesn't it? But the good news is you found it. That feeling of finally getting it working again is pretty great, even if it did take three hours of your life you won't get back.

Three hours on a DVD player? That's not a win, that's a waste of a good afternoon. Dust on the lens is such a basic thing you could've just tried blowing on it first, like everyone does with old tech. I feel like people make these simple fixes into big sagas just to feel clever about themselves when it's done. Maybe that time would've been better spent just getting a new player, or you know, doing literally anything else.
