Tried to fix a PS2 with rice vs proper tools and the difference was night and day lol

My brother handed me his old PS2 that wouldn't read discs last weekend and swore sticking it in a bag of rice overnight would fix the laser. I laughed but he was dead serious. So I let him do his rice thing while I ordered a $12 laser pot replacement kit off eBay. After 3 days his console still sounded like a dying blender. I cracked mine open, turned the little screw on the laser pot maybe 15 degrees with a multimeter, and boom it read everything first try. The rice method just made a mess inside the console. Has anyone else had friends try weird home remedies on retro gear that totally failed?

lmaoo my friend actually did this once, she dropped her phone in the toilet and her boyfriend was like "rice trick" but she thought he meant put it in actual rice pudding so she left it in a bowl of rice pudding overnight. absolute disaster lol
