A customer's old radio taught me to check the simple stuff first

This guy brought in a 1970s Panasonic table radio that wouldn't turn on, and he was sure it was a dead power supply. I spent 20 minutes with my multimeter before he pointed at the volume knob and said, 'You know, it clicks when you turn it all the way down.' It was just the on/off switch linked to the volume pot, and the contacts were dirty. A quick spray with DeoxIT and it fired right up. How many times have you guys jumped straight to the complex fix and missed something that simple?

Please, that's just lazy troubleshooting. You should always test the power supply first to rule out the expensive parts.

Seriously, that's how you fry a motherboard.
