Cleaned my 500th elevator pit today and it hit me

I was finishing up a job at the old First National building downtown, vacuuming out the usual dust and pennies. When I logged it in my book, the count was exactly 500. It's wild to think about all the weird stuff I've seen down there over the years, from lost tools to a whole nest of wiring someone just left. What's the strangest thing you've ever found in a pit?

We pulled a drain cover last year and found a whole family of rats living in the pipe junction. They were not happy about the eviction. The trick is to have a heavy bucket ready to slide over the opening before they all scatter. A coworker learned that the hard way and we had rats in the shop for a week.

My buddy found a full set of dentures once, just sitting on a pipe. Makes you wonder how someone walks away without noticing that, right? He left them on the maintenance desk but nobody ever claimed them.
