My old foreman told me to always carry a spare 3/8 inch spanner wrench for those old Dover units. I finally listened after getting stuck for an hour in a hot machine room.

Oh man, that hot machine room struggle brings back memories! I had a similar thing happen years ago with a Trane chiller where the access panel bolt stripped clean off. My old mentor told me to keep a small flathead screwdriver and a hammer handy for those moments (you know, the brute force approach). Took me about 15 minutes of gentle tapping to get the damn thing loose, but it beat waiting for a service truck. That trick worked way better than the butter thing (no offense to mason_reed47's grandpa).

My grandpa swore by putting butter on a burn. Tried it once as a kid and it made things way worse. Sometimes old advice is just outdated, not wise. They had less info to work with back then.

That Dover advice saved my skin last week. The new units have different fittings, but those old clunkers are still out there. Sometimes the old ways are the only way that works.
