My service log hit 5000 hours on the same Otis unit I started on

I mean, I was just doing a routine check on this old Miconic V panel downtown and the counter rolled over. It kinda hit me that I've been keeping this one elevator going for almost three years now. Do you guys ever get attached to a particular machine you've worked on for a long time?

Remember to document that rollover in your service log for the next tech. That kind of continuity is rare and really helps with troubleshooting. It's good to see someone take that kind of pride in their work.

Absolutely! I learned that the hard way when I inherited a system with zero notes (what a mess).

Ever try to follow a paint code from the last guy? I got one that just said "green." Thanks, man. Was that forest, sage, or the color of regret? I spent a whole morning matching it.

Oh man, that's a solid milestone right there. 5000 hours on the same unit is no joke, especially an older Miconic V. But I gotta gently push back on that "almost three years" timeline. 5000 hours is actually closer to two years of full time work if you're doing 40 hour weeks, but I'm guessing you're on the road and not at that one site every single day. So it's probably more like 2.5 years if you're counting just the hours you've actually spent on that machine. Still, I totally get what you mean about getting attached. I've got a couple old gearless jobs I've been babysitting for years and you just know their quirks better than anyone else. It's kinda like having a grumpy old pet that only listens to you.
