Rant: My partner's gripes about loose screws at home got my van in order

She kept finding nuts and bolts in the laundry, which was annoying. I figured if my home tools were a mess, my service van must be worse. So, I bought a bunch of small containers and sorted everything by elevator part. Now, I have one box for door gear, another for rope clips, and so on. It cuts down on search time during calls, making jobs quicker. Even at home, I keep a dedicated spot for my gear, so no more complaints. Giving each item a place saves so much hassle on the job.

Organizing gets praised a lot. But sometimes it's just moving clutter into nicer boxes. Spent an hour labeling folders that just collect digital dust. Not sure it actually simplifies much in the long run.

Yeah, @the_parker has a point about it just being nicer boxes sometimes. But when a specific part like a door restrictor spring is missing, and you're on a clock, that one labeled bin is the difference between a five minute fix and a pointless hour of digging. My old van was a black hole for 10-32 bolts. Now they're all in one tub. It's not about pretty, it's about not wasting mental energy on a hunt when you could just grab and go.
