Warning: That $400 thermal imager I bought last month just caught a failing motor bearing I would have missed.
It was a big upfront cost, but it saved a call-back and a full motor swap. Anyone else using thermal for predictive maintenance on traction units?

Oh nice. I saw a video where a guy used one to spot a bad connection in a panel before it arced. Seems like a solid tool to have.

Yeah, that's a good point. Could save a ton of trouble down the line.

That $400 is a lot for a tool that just shows hot spots. Like @ramirez.vera said, it can find a bad connection, but a bearing getting warm doesn't always mean it's about to fail. I'd still want to check it with a stethoscope before calling it a serious problem.
