Worst Tuesday I've ever had on a Schindler 330A in downtown Chicago
I was swapping a door operator motor on the 12th floor of an office tower when the mainline disconnect switch arced and blew the whole floor's power... took me 7 hours to get a maintenance guy to let me back in the electrical room. Anyone else ever have a simple repair turn into a whole building blackout?

12th floor electrical rooms are usually the ones with the worst maintenance, bet that panel hadn't been touched since the 90s. Honestly sounds like you got lucky it wasn't worse.

Read somewhere that older panels can actually fail in a way that stops fires before they start. @carr.abby

Bet that panel hadn't been touched since the 90s" yeah probably not since someone wrote "Spice Girls rule" in the dust on it. Honestly that's like saying your car's check engine light is actually a "fire prevention feature" because it finally gave up and stopped pretending to work. My money's on the thing just getting so old it got too tired to even arc properly. Lucky it didn't just decide to take a nap and let the whole building go instead.
