I was steaming faces for a full 10 minutes before a client's skin turned bright red.

She came in for a basic facial and I kept the steamer going like I always do. Her cheeks got really pink and she said it felt too hot, which made me look at the timer. Has anyone else had a client react badly to standard steam time?

That's just how it goes with anything involving heat and skin.

Yeah, I read a study once that said ten minutes is actually the upper limit for most people. It mentioned that sensitive skin types can start reacting after just five or six minutes. Might be worth cutting the time back and checking in with clients more often.

My old salon manager made us set a timer for eight minutes max with any heat treatment. She said even that was pushing it for some clients. We had to check in at the five minute mark every single time, no excuses. It felt like a hassle at first, but I saw way fewer red faces or complaints after we started doing that. The time really does creep up on you if you're not watching it closely.

I mean, I've had clients sit for fifteen minutes with no issues at all. Maybe it depends on the product more than the time? Idk, just my experience.
