TIL that mixing hyaluronic acid with copper peptides can cause pilling for hours...

I spent 45 minutes redoing a full facial yesterday because my products just kept balling up on the skin, and it took me three tries to figure out the sequence was wrong. Has anyone else run into this with layering serums in a specific order?

What if the issue isn't just timing but also the type of HA you're using? @linda_reed mentioned spritzing water first, and that actually makes sense because some HA formulas are thicker and more likely to pill when layered over a peptide that hasn't fully dried down. I switched to a lighter HA serum and cut my wait time to like 3 minutes between steps, and that fixed the balling problem for me too.

Oh man, this exact thing happened to me last week and I nearly threw my whole skincare routine out the window. It was like my face was covered in tiny little eraser shavings, no joke. I had my hyaluronic acid and then tried to put on a copper peptide serum and it was a complete disaster, just balling up everywhere. Took me a solid hour of washing and reapplying to get it right, and even then I think I messed up the pH balance or something because my skin felt weird. You are not alone in this struggle, it is such a finicky dance with those two ingredients specifically. I finally figured out that waiting a full five minutes between layers helps a ton, but honestly sometimes I just skip one or the other to avoid the headache.

I had the exact same problem, @nathankim, and it drove me crazy for weeks until I figured out a trick that worked. What finally helped for me was using the copper peptide serum first, letting it sink in for at least a full ten minutes, and then putting the hyaluronic acid on top. That way the copper peptide has time to set and doesn't get all sticky. The hyaluronic acid also seems to glide on smoother without balling up if I spritz my face with a little water first. I also learned to pat the products in gently instead of rubbing them around, which made a big difference. Now I do that and I don't have to skip one or the other anymore, which is a relief.
