My brother said a viral story about a Portland protest was totally wrong

He was actually there and said the video everyone was sharing cut out the part where the crowd calmed down, making it look way worse. I mean, I'd seen that clip like 50 times on different sites and just assumed it was the full story. It made me start looking for longer source footage before I believe anything that's going viral. Has anyone else had a friend give you the real story on something that blew up online?

A friend who works near that protest said the viral clip started right after someone threw a bottle, but the full video shows it was one person who got told off by the crowd. The news kept replaying the 15 seconds of chaos, not the two minutes where people were trying to de-escalate. Makes you wonder how many other stories are cut that way on purpose, right?

So what was actually happening before they calmed down?

Honestly Jenny, is it ever that big of a deal? People get worked up over small stuff online. It was probably just a few folks arguing over a tiny detail in some news story before they all got tired and moved on.

Saw a guy at the grocery store yesterday arguing with a bag of frozen peas like it owed him money.
