Update: I used to trash those 'fact check' sites, but one caught me on a fake story about a shark in Lake Michigan

Last month I saw a post going around about a shark spotted near Navy Pier and I shared it without thinking. A friend pointed me to Snopes and I rolled my eyes, but clicked anyway. Turns out the photo was from a 2014 incident in Australia and the whole thing was made up. I ended up deleting my post and apologizing, which felt dumb but fair. Anyone else ever get burned by a story that seemed too wild to check?

honestly who cares if the picture was from Australia lol a shark in Lake Michigan would never happen anyway, its freshwater. people act like a fake shark post is the end of the world but really it just means you shared something silly, not like you lied about anything serious

Two people actually got into a screaming match in my local grocery store over that shark post, I wish I was joking. People are acting like that picture personally stole their lunch money or something.

Tbh I'd probably be the one screaming, but just because I forgot my shopping list.
