I saw a story about a park bench being removed for 'safety' and thought it was fake, but then I walked by and it was actually gone.

That bench was the only safe place to sit after dark, so of course it had to go.

Spot on, @the_claire. Feels like they keep taking away the few decent public spots that actually work for people. Makes you wonder if they even want us outside at night.

Yeah it's a real pattern. I read this article last week about how cities keep adding those anti-homeless spikes and taking away benches under the excuse of "upgrades". They never put the same number back. It just pushes everyone into fewer spaces that feel more crowded and less safe. Makes the whole area feel unwelcome after sunset.
