My friend said to ignore the online fuss about a cartoon dog's name change
Back in 2021, there was a huge uproar online because some people said a cartoon dog's name was being changed for political reasons. My buddy Mark, who works in animation, told me it was all fake drama and the name was never officially changed. He was right, the whole thing was just a rumor that blew up on social media for a week and then vanished. It taught me to wait a few days before believing any 'outrage' story. Has anyone else seen a news story recently that fell apart after a closer look?

Yeah, the "wait a few days" rule is key. I saw a story last month about a store policy that was just a bad photo of a sign. People got mad for a weekend before someone posted the real sign.

Right, the "wait a few days" thing is so real. I fell for a fake menu change last week, got all annoyed for nothing. Good call, @derek_lee.

But what if waiting just lets them get away with lying?

Oh man, I so agree with this! I almost called out a local bakery last month because they posted "closed for renovations" and I was convinced it was a lie (I had a bad experience there before). Turns out they really were repainting the inside (the photos came out a week later). Now I just set a reminder on my phone to check back in a few days before I get all worked up. It's saved me from looking like a fool more than once!
