That $40 'magnetic car mount' that peeled my dashboard paint off in 3 days

I fell for a viral ad for this magnetic phone mount that promised no residue and super strong hold... stuck it right on my 2012 Honda's dash and it looked great for exactly one day. Day two I noticed the gel pad was starting to discolor and get gooey from the heat inside the car. By day three I went to pull the mount off and it literally took a chunk of the dashboard paint with it, leaving this ugly gray plastic patch. So I wasted $40 on Amazon plus now I'm looking at a $200 dash repair kit that probably won't match the texture. Has anyone else had a car accessory ruin their interior like this?

Different strokes but I'd be annoyed too spending $240 on a dumb mistake.

Man, are you really sinking 200 bucks into a dash repair for one little spot? I get it's annoying but it's a 2012 Honda, not some classic car. The plastic underneath is probably gonna look fine once you wipe off the leftover glue... just hit it with some interior cleaner and call it a day. Most people don't even notice their own dashboard texture unless they're staring at it from the passenger seat.

$240 is actually a pretty fair price for a proper repair if they're using the vinyl repair kits with heat and texture stamps. The bigger issue nobody's mentioned is that once that spot gets worse from sun damage or a passenger's knee pushing on it, that little mistake turns into a crack that runs across the whole dash. Honestly, a 2012 Honda still has plenty of life left and a cracked dash drops resale value way more than $200.
