That week I fell for a $40 'magnetic phone mount' that couldn't hold my phone on a bumpy road

Last Tuesday I saw this ad for a magnetic car phone mount with these super strong neodymium magnets. I bought it off Instagram for $40, and it looked great in the box. First drive over a pothole on Main Street in Austin, my phone flew off and landed on the passenger floor. The magnet was barely stronger than a fridge one. Anyone else had a viral car accessory fail on the first real test?

yeah those instagram ads are the worst for overhyping stuff. neodymium magnets are legit but the cheap ones they use in those mounts are usually just regular ferrite magnets painted to look fancy. $40 is way too much for what is basically a fridge magnet with a sticker on it.

@wren_mitchell same pattern with those expensive phone grips and gym gear, all hype and no substance

Agree with the point but neodymium magnets actually are pretty strong if they're real.

@wilson.olivia you're spot on, it's frustrating watching people pay a premium for the same old junk with a different label. Solidarity man, this whole trend of fake hype gear is exhausting.
