I thought those magnetic hoof testers were just a gimmick until a vet in Boise showed me one.
He found a subtle abscess my regular testers missed, and now I keep a set in my rig. Anyone else have a tool they doubted that actually earned its keep?

Honestly thought those things were total snake oil too lol. My old farrier let me try his once and I felt like a complete idiot trying to figure it out. Turns out the magnet sticking to a random spot on my boot was not the same as finding a problem in the hoof. Took some practice, but it's saved me a couple times now when a horse was just off and nothing else showed up.

Yeah, those magnetic testers are sneaky good for finding the tricky ones. I keep a cheap hoof knife in my truck for quick field fixes too.

Actually, a hoof knife is for trimming, not pulling. You want a puller for a quick field fix.
