PSA: My new hoof stand cost $350 and I'm not sure it was worth it.

I got the fancy one with the adjustable leg and the padded top. It's nice and steady, but it's so heavy to carry from the truck. My old simple stand was lighter and did the same job for holding a foot. Has anyone found a good middle ground that's easy to move but still solid?

Totally get what you mean about the simple tool being the right tool! I used to always want the fanciest gear, but moving heavy stuff like @sarahpark said just kills the fun. My back started complaining, and I finally listened. Now I keep my basic, light stand for most days and only use the heavy one if I'm setting up for a long time in one spot. That change in thinking saved me so much hassle.

Ugh, the heavy gear struggle is so real. I've got a fancy mounting block I never use because it's like moving a piece of furniture.

My last big tool buy was a $280 clipper vacuum that I swear weighs as much as a small pony. I feel your pain on the fancy gear being a backbreaker. I keep my old basic stand for travel days and only drag the heavy duty one out for long sessions in the barn. Sometimes the simple tool is just the right tool, even if the new shiny one looks better in the catalog.
