Swore a hand rasp was always better than a power one until I tried a friend's die grinder on a nasty club foot last month

That die grinder shaved off a quarter inch of weird hoof wall in under a minute while my arm was still sore from trying to rasp the first foot, so has anyone else switched to power tools for certain horses or am I just getting lazy?

Water bucket trick saved my ass on a nasty foundered pony last fall.

You ever had a pony founder come back from it fully after that trick, or does it just buy you time to get the vet out... Curious if they tend to relapse later on down the road. Always nervous about the long term soundness with those tough little buggers.

You've had any trouble with overheating the hoof? I used a die grinder on a tough draft cross last spring and learned the hard way you have to take breaks or the heat can really bother them. I keep a cup of water nearby now and dip the bit every few passes to keep things cool. Also helps to use a fresh carbide bit, a dull one will just bounce and make the whole thing take longer.
