Debate: Did a Shein haul video actually change how you shop or just make you feel guilty?

I watched this viral TikTok from a girl in LA who spent $200 on Shein and showed every item falling apart after one wash. Her point was that we should stop buying this stuff, but half the comments said she was just bragging about being able to afford better brands. I live in Phoenix and my neighbor swears by cheap fast fashion because it's all she can budget for her kids. So which side is right - is it better to buy less but more expensive, or does that just shame people who can't afford it? Has anyone here actually changed their buying habits after seeing one of those videos?

Wait, didn't she spend $200 on Shein stuff though?

And honestly that $200 thing gets me too because people act like it's some huge flex but really that's just how much two pairs of decent jeans would cost from like Old Navy or something. It's not like she dropped a thousand bucks at Nordstrom, you know? The whole "she's bragging" argument kind of misses the point that spending less on fast fashion doesn't automatically mean you're being responsible, it just means you're getting more stuff for the same price. I think the real issue is that nobody wants to admit that the whole system is broken, whether you're buying 10 shirts for $20 or one shirt for $50.

The $200 at Shein is actually way more stuff than two pairs of jeans at Old Navy though, like five times as many pieces and half the quality. Its not about bragging, its about whether the price tag actually means anything when the clothes fall apart in two washes.
