Just realized my 'vintage' Shein dress is a direct copy of a 2008 H&M piece I found in a thrift store.
It took me a solid 3 hours of reverse image searching to trace the knockoff chain back to the original, proving fast fashion is just cannibalizing its own past designs at an even faster rate now.

Yeah that "cannibalizing its own past" line hits hard, it's honestly kind of depressing. I saw what @grant347 said about the snake eating its tail and it's exactly that, they're just digging through a smaller and smaller pile of old stuff. It makes the whole hunt for something "new" feel pretty pointless lol. Solidarity on spending hours deep in a search rabbit hole only to find out it's all just copies of copies.

My friend found the same dress she bought last year in a museum exhibit from the 90s.

Remember when we used to laugh at our parents for keeping clothes too long? Now my closet is basically a future museum archive, I just don't know it yet. I found a shirt from 2018 that's back in stores right now.

It's like a snake eating its own tail. They've run out of new ideas so they're just recycling old fast fashion now.
