My grandma told me to always check the seams on a $5 dress, and she was right
I found a cute floral dress at a fast fashion pop-up in Phoenix last summer, and it looked perfect. She said to turn it inside out and check the stitching, which was already coming loose in three places. I bought it anyway and it fell apart after two washes. Anyone else have a simple check they do now before buying cheap clothes?

Cameron's point about fabric weight is so true. My own rule is to check the buttons and zippers on anything cheap. Bought a denim jacket once where the button was basically glued on, fell off the first time I wore it. Now I give them a good tug in the store. If they feel loose or the fabric around them puckers, it's a hard pass. That stuff never survives.

Check the fabric weight by holding it up to the light. If you can see your hand through it, that thing is going to be see-through or tear so fast. Learned that after buying a shirt that basically dissolved. Your grandma gave solid advice, we just have to actually listen to it.

Man, that reminds me of a pair of pants that ripped right up the seam in the grocery store.
