Pro tip: I thought those $5 shirts were a win until I saw the water bill

I bought a pack of three graphic tees from a viral brand for $15 total last month. After the first wash, my whole laundry room smelled like a pool and the water in the sink turned blue for a minute. My roommate, who works in environmental science, said the dye runoff from cheap clothes is a real issue and showed me a report from a river near a big factory city. Has anyone else had a weird reaction after washing new fast fashion items?

Water in the sink turned blue" is a wild side effect I was not expecting. I mean, you bought a shirt, not a pack of Kool-Aid. Guess the real cost is having your laundry room double as a public swimming pool.

My old $10 jeans turned my whole wash cycle red once.

Ever notice how cheap stuff always bleeds color? I had a black t-shirt from a street vendor that turned my white socks gray for months. It's like they skip the step where they set the dye. My mom's "bargain" red towels still leave pink fuzz on everything after a year. Feels like you pay less up front but then pay for it forever in ruined laundry.
