My helper put down a whole box of plank flooring backwards on a job in Boise.
We were installing a click-lock vinyl in a new build, and he didn't notice the directional arrows. Had to pull up 20 square feet before the adhesive set. Anyone have a good trick for making sure new guys catch that detail first thing?

Ever try marking the starting wall with a big piece of blue tape and an arrow? Drill it into them that the arrows ALWAYS point away from that wall. Makes it a rule, not just a detail to look for.

Tried that once and my crew still managed to lay a whole row backwards. The foreman came by, pointed at the tape, and just said "Betty... the arrow." Felt like I needed one of those big foam fingers pointing at the wall for a week straight. My guys still bring it up whenever we start a new floor.

The arrow" is such a gentle but brutal call-out. That foam finger image is perfect, I can feel the shame from here.
