A customer in my shop taught me something about lilies

An older man came in yesterday looking for a birthday bouquet. He pointed at some stargazer lilies and said, 'My wife loves these, but please pull the orange pollen bits off the stamens.' I asked why, and he explained it stops the pollen from staining clothes and makes the flowers last longer. I'd never heard that tip before. Have any of you been doing this for your lily arrangements?

Wait you're telling me you've never heard of pulling the pollen off? I thought that was like, flower arranging 101.

Seriously, you pull the pollen off? I always thought it was part of the flower's look, but that actually makes sense to keep things from getting messy. I'm going to try that next time.

The bits of pollen don't actually affect how long the flowers last, it's mainly about preventing stains. I find it's still worth doing though.
