Back in the day, we knew our regulars by name, not just their order numbers

I miss when people would walk in and we'd talk about their week while choosing blooms. Now, with so many app orders, I get maybe one face-to-face chat a day. I had a lady last month who I only knew from her phone number, and she had been buying from me for years. It just takes the joy out of helping folks mark their big moments.

You know, it's not just about missing the chats. When we don't see people, we lose the chance to remember the little things, like if they always buy sunflowers for their mom's birthday. @jessicaj28's note idea is smart because it uses what we do know from orders. But I try to go further by keeping a simple list on my computer of customer details from past talks. If someone orders online, I can still add a personal line based on that. It's a bit of work, but it helps me feel connected to the stories behind the flowers again.

Actually, I have a buddy who still brings up that I remembered his coffee order from one time. Makes me wonder if we're all just desperate for someone to pay attention.

Man, that really hits home. I started slipping little handwritten notes into my online orders, just a sentence or two about the flowers they picked. Tbh, it felt silly at first, but then a few customers actually called just to say thanks. It's not the same as a chat over the counter, but it put the personal touch back in for me.
