Finally decided to switch from floral foam to chicken wire for a big wedding arch last month
The setup took an extra 20 minutes but the cleanup was instant and the bride loved the sustainable angle. Anyone else made that swap for large pieces and have tips for keeping stems secure?

Try using a bit of moss for extra grip.

Yeah, a thin layer of sheet moss really helps hide the ugly parts and holds things in place.

Oh wow... I always thought that was just for looks. Might have to try it now.

Honestly, I tried the chicken wire swap last year and it was a mess. The stems just wouldn't stay put, even with moss, and a few key flowers drooped before the ceremony even started. For something as big and important as a wedding arch, that risk isn't worth the quick cleanup. Floral foam is ugly but it works every single time.
