PSA: A foreman in Detroit mentioned a new sand additive that cut our scrap rate

I was at a supplier meeting in Detroit last month and the foreman from the big auto plant there said they started using a new sand additive called 'BindFast 3000' in their green sand. He claimed it cut their scrap rate from 8% down to 3% on a specific cast iron line. That's a huge drop and got me thinking about our own scrap numbers. Has anyone else tried a new binder or additive lately that actually made a real difference?

That's a serious drop in scrap. We're still fighting with our own binder on the smaller aluminum runs.

Tell me about it, felixm29. My last small batch looked like a glitter bomb went off in the shop, just aluminum confetti everywhere. I'm starting to think my binder is just fancy water with commitment issues.

Wow, that's a huge drop! Did he say if it changed their shakeout time at all?
