PSA: Just learned the first US iron foundry was in 1642, in Saugus, Massachusetts.
Read it in an old trade magazine at the dentist's office, which felt like a weird place to get a history lesson. Anyone else stumble on foundry facts in random spots?

Yeah, waiting room finds are the best kind of accidental history lessons.

Wait, wasn't that the first successful commercial ironworks? I'm pretty sure there was an earlier attempt at a foundry in Virginia that failed. The Saugus one is the one that really got things going as a business. That's a cool find though, especially at the dentist. I always see weird old magazines in waiting rooms too.

Right, because nothing says "relaxing dental visit" like reading about 17th century industrial failures.

Honestly, I'd take weird history over those celebrity gossip mags. At least you learn something.
