Stupidly spent $300 on a 'premium' crucible that cracked on the second pour

Bought a fancy silicon carbide crucible from a slick online ad last month because I thought it'd last forever. That thing split right down the middle on the second heat. Has anyone else had better luck with the standard clay-graphite ones from a regular supplier?

But did you ramp the heat gradual or just crank it straight up? I'm wondering if the cheap ones are more forgiving of bad habits since they're already lower quality.

Wait, people actually push cheap crucibles past 2100F on their first heat? That feels like asking for trouble right out of the box.

What was your pour temperature when it gave out? I've seen those silicon carbide ones fail when folks push them past 2100F too fast on the first couple heats. The standard clay-graphite from a place like Budget Casting Supply has treated me fine for years, just need to season them right before heavy use.
