A client told me my project updates were too long and they stopped reading them

They said 'just give me the headline and the next step, I don't need the novel.' Now I send a three-bullet email every Friday: done this week, plan for next, any blockers. Has anyone else had to totally change how they report to clients?

Had to learn that lesson the hard way too. Used to send these huge emails thinking I was being thorough. Turns out I was just being annoying. Your three bullet method is spot on, that's basically what I do now. People just want to know if things are on track and what's next. Anything more than that and their eyes glaze over.

Right? I used to write novels too. Now I just assume everyone's reading on their phone while in line for coffee.

It's like @phoenix149 said, people just want the simple facts without all the extra fluff.

Remember my old blog posts that were basically short stories? I'm pretty sure my own mom started skimming them. Now I keep it to three lines max or I lose myself!
