Finally tried value-based pricing. Client agreed. Feeling proud.

Glad it worked for you, but I see it differently. In my experience, value-based pricing can get messy fast. Clients might agree at first, but then they haggle over what the value actually is later on. It often leads to awkward talks where you have to defend your price every time. For me, that extra stress isn't worth it. I find sticking to hourly or project rates keeps things simple and fair for everyone.

But what if you define the value together upfront with hard numbers? Makes it a shared goal, not just a bill.

My friend tried that exact thing last year. He built a website for a local shop and they agreed his fee would be tied to a twenty percent sales increase. He got them the increase, but then the owner started arguing. She said the value was lower because some sales came from returning customers, not the new site. It turned into a weeks long fight over spreadsheets and numbers they never thought to define. He got paid way less than they first talked about and it wrecked the relationship.

Totally get that, @felixmoore, my buddy swears by hourly for the same reason.
