My accountant told me to raise my rates by 30% last quarter and I was sure I'd lose work.
I've been doing web design for about four years and was stuck at the same price. He looked at my books and said I was working too hard for not enough money. I was scared, but I did it for three new proposals. I ended up landing two of them, and the extra money from just one covered what I would have made from three old-rate jobs. It felt like a huge risk, but it worked. Has anyone else been told to make a big price jump and how did you handle it?

Your accountant sounds a bit dramatic.

Yeah the "dramatic" comment hits home. My last accountant freaked out over every little thing too. I switched to someone who just explains the problem and the fix without the theater. It made tax season way less stressful. Turns out a calm pro can handle the same mess without making it a crisis.

But sometimes a little drama is what gets clients to take things seriously. A calm tone might make them think it's not a big deal.
