My drone decided to land in a pond during a real estate shoot last Thursday

It was a DJI Mini 3 Pro, just hovering for a final shot, and the battery gave a low warning and dropped faster than I've ever seen. The thing went straight into the client's backyard koi pond. I fished it out with a net, but it's completely fried. Now I'm stuck between just buying a new one or trying to claim it on my business insurance, which feels like a hassle. Has anyone had to file an insurance claim for a total gear loss like this?

Insurance is a hassle, but that's what you pay for.

Wait, you actually get something for paying? Every time I've had to use mine it's just a mountain of paperwork and then they find a reason not to cover it.

Oh man, I used to feel exactly the same way. I honestly thought insurance was a total waste until my last claim actually went through without a fight. It really changed how I see it, even if I still hate the paperwork.

Ugh, fiona_kim97 is right but man, it's such a scam. You pay them for years and the one time you need help, they treat you like a criminal trying to pull a fast one. My advice is to just buy the new drone and save the insurance for something truly catastrophic, like your whole kit getting stolen. The deductible and the rate hike afterwards will probably cost you almost as much as a new Mini 3 anyway.
