Rant: My client work went from local ads to full documentaries in under two years
Back in 2022, most of my gigs were 30-second spots for small businesses in my city. Now, I just finished a 20-minute documentary for a non-profit. The shift happened after I posted three detailed case studies on my website showing my process from start to finish. Suddenly, the inquiries changed completely. Is it better to chase the bigger, longer projects or stick with the quicker, simpler jobs that pay the bills faster?

Wait, only three case studies did that? That's wild.

Spot the same thing with fiona_carr26's point about fast money. See it all the time, like when a friend chases a fancy promotion that takes a year but misses out on steady overtime pay right now. Or people waiting for a "perfect" apartment while paying too much for a bad one month after month. Chasing the big, slow win can make you miss a dozen smaller, real ones.

But what if those bigger projects are a trap? I've seen people get stuck on one long, slow-paying documentary for months... while their old clients who paid fast moved on to someone else. The money from quick jobs is real and it's now.
