Showerthought: My backup drive failed right before a big edit
Last Thursday, I was about to start cutting a wedding highlight reel for a couple in Phoenix. I plugged in my portable SSD, and it just wouldn't mount on my laptop. I tried different cables and ports, but nothing worked. The drive had all the ceremony footage from the weekend before. I ended up having to use the lower-quality proxy files I'd made as a backup, which took an extra day to re-sync. Has anyone else had a drive die at the worst possible moment, and what's your go-to backup plan now?

Lost a drive right before a client deadline last year. I now keep three copies of everything, with one stored off-site. It's a hassle but it's saved me twice already.

Ugh, that's the worst feeling. Your backup plan is totally worth the hassle.

Three copies is the bare minimum honestly. That off-site backup is the real hero when your whole office floods or something.
