A client in Denver told me my shellac finish looked 'plastic' and it made me switch to a different sealer.

Switched to a hardwax oil after a similar comment, and the natural look gets way more compliments now.

Yeah that "warmer" feeling Sarah mentioned is interesting. I mean, is it just the color or does the texture change too? Like does the oil finish make the wood grain feel different underfoot compared to a regular polyurethane coat? Idk, maybe it's just me but I'm trying to picture the actual difference.

Totally agree with @richarddixon. I did the same thing on my oak floors last year and people always ask about the finish now. It just feels warmer, you know?
