Saw a guy in Charlotte strip a whole table with a card scraper in under 20 minutes.

I used to think my orbital sander was the only way. Now I keep a sharp scraper in my kit for every job. Anyone else make that switch after seeing it done fast?

Sharp is everything. @fionam11 is right about the final pass, but that first pull with a perfect edge is magic. Makes sanding feel like a chore.

That Charlotte demo sounds like it changed a few minds. I still struggle to get a consistent burr on my scrapers, though. What's your sharpening method to get it that fast?

Charlotte, North Carolina? I saw a guy do something similar at a woodworking show there last year and it blew my mind. A whole table in under twenty minutes means that scraper had to be insanely sharp, like scary sharp. It makes my orbital sander feel like a slow, dusty dinosaur in comparison. I still use the sander for final passes, but now I reach for the scraper first every single time.

A card scraper is great, but @harris.andrew is right that the sharpness is key. It can still leave marks that need a final sanding pass.
