I finally got to see the columnar basalt at Devil's Postpile last month
Honestly, seeing those perfect hexagons up close after the hike was way cooler than any textbook picture. Has anyone else been there and know if the columns are always that uniform?

Nature loves repeating patterns, from honeycombs to these rocks!

Took my friend to a waterfall last summer and she wouldn't shut up about how the basalt rocks there looked exactly like the ones in some documentary she watched. She kept running her hands over them like they were gonna talk back or something.

My buddy went there last fall and said the same thing about the columns... he was convinced they were man-made at first. The park ranger told him they get more uniform as you go higher up the formation. Guess the cooling process was just really consistent in that spot.

Reminds me of the Giant's Causeway in Ireland. Those basalt columns look like a giant's staircase going into the sea. The local legend says a giant built it to fight a Scottish giant, which is way more fun than the actual geology explanation. Makes you wonder who came up with the first story about those weird rocks.
