Heard two instructors argue over using graphite vs. steel punties. One claims graphite prevents sticking, the other says steel gives better control. Which side are you on?

That graphite punty debate reminds me of the time one snapped mid-use and shot across the studio. Left a nasty mark on the wall but the steel one just bent weird later.

My friend's punty snapped too, @mary_hernandez, dented the floor.

Left a nasty mark on the wall" sounds dramatic but is it really a big safety issue? A dented floor or marked wall just seems like normal shop wear and tear to me. I've seen way worse from dropped tools. The real problem would be hitting a person, and that's pretty rare.
