PSA: My kiln door seal failed during a big piece in Austin
I was working on a 22 inch vase at the East Austin studio last Thursday when I saw the temp drop 75 degrees in five minutes. The old fiber blanket seal on my Paragon front loader had a hidden tear. I grabbed some spare ceramic fiber paper, cut a strip, and wedged it in the gap with a flat tool to hold the heat while the piece finished. Has anyone found a better long term fix for a worn door seal without a full rebuild?

Just replace the whole blanket.

But what if the blanket is a family heirloom or some expensive weighted one? My grandma's quilt is falling apart but you can't just swap that. Seems like a quick fix that misses when things have real value.

Actually, the original post was about duct tape on a cheap blanket. The heirloom example is a different kind of problem that needs careful mending, not a quick fix.

Honestly, this is just how we fix things now. We patch and prop stuff up instead of doing the real repair, because that takes time and money. It works until the next thing gives out.
