Just realized I've cut over 5000 pieces of 1/4" clear float this year... and I'm not even at a big shop.

Holy cow, 5000 pieces! That's a whole mountain of glass. Just the thought of handling all that without a single break gives me a headache. You must have a super steady hand.

Wow, that number is wild! My friend who does custom framing had a crazy week where he cut a huge order of that exact stuff. He said by the third day, his brain was so fried he almost measured a piece using the metric side of his ruler and didn't even notice. The final count was something like 800 pieces for one job, and he said his hands felt like jelly for a week after. That kind of volume really makes you appreciate the muscle memory, doesn't it?

I had a buddy who runs a print shop and he once told me about a 48-hour rush job where he zoned out so hard he started using a tape measure upside down. He said the numbers looked right in his head but the cuts were all off by like a quarter inch, and he had to scrap a whole stack of material. You ever get that brain fog where your hands just go on autopilot and your brain checks out completely?

Ever try using a sharpie to mark the side of the ruler you need? It sounds silly, but it saves you when you're tired like your friend was. Eva_moore is right about needing a steady hand, but a clear mark helps your brain catch up.
