Rant: My GPS glitched in downtown Seattle and sent me to a building that wasn't there
Last Tuesday, I was driving to meet a friend at a coffee shop on 4th Avenue. My phone's map app told me to turn right onto a street called 'Cedar Place' and the destination would be on my left. I made the turn, but the entire block was just a solid brick wall, no doors or windows, for about 200 feet. I drove the length of it twice. Everyone says it was just a mapping error, but I swear that app showed a 3D building outline and everything. Has anyone else had a navigation app show a whole location that just doesn't exist?

Honestly that's just how downtown is sometimes. Tbh those 3D building outlines get auto-generated from old data all the time. You probably just hit a weird glitch with the satellite images.

adam_baker is right about the 3D stuff being auto-generated, but it's not from old satellite images. Those outlines usually come from city planning data, which can be wrong if a project got canceled.

Sounds like the app just pulled up an old blueprint. Happens all the time with those 3D views. They're basically fancy guesses. You found a brick wall instead of a coffee shop, not a portal to another dimension. Next time maybe just look for the actual street sign or the building number.
