I thought a complex layout would look more professional for a brewery client, but the clean single page they picked from my options just works better.
The client in Austin chose the simple design over my detailed mockup because it loaded faster and was easier to read on a phone, so now I always show at least one super minimal option, anyone else find that less is more for web projects?

Remember when every website had a splash page with a giant flash animation? I spent weeks building one for a local band, and they were just mad their fans couldn't find the tour dates. Fancy stuff just gets in the way of what people actually need to do.

Oh man, you're bringing back bad memories... I remember a local car dealership had one of those flash intros with a spinning logo that took forever to load. Customers would just close the tab before the homepage even showed up. It was like they were trying to impress nobody but themselves.

Yeah, "more professional" usually just means "slower and confusing" in my experience.
